I roamed all over the Netherlands to find tough men. Silent men on noisy vehicles. Men whose masculinity and appearance become pillars of confidence and safety. As a child I grew up with the idea that my father is the toughest man in the world. He was tall, strong and very smart, he was protective and I could always count on him. One day I realized that my father couldn’t protect me anymore. The protection I’m longed for from my own father, I tried to find in these men. The seemingly strong men, changed character as I got closer to them. In the minute I pressed the shutter, I saw the same vulnerability in them as I saw in my father. The pillars of confidence collapsed.
